BrumbieAir Pty Ltd is the Australian distributor of Hirth Engines manufactured in Germany by Gobler Hirthmotoren KG .

Hellmuth Hirth, born 1886 in Heilbronn, was a very successful German pilot before the First World War. At the age of 18 he was employed as a mechanic at Edison in the USA. In 1909 Hellmuth returned to Germany to work at "Erler" on the first German airplanes. In 1910 he completed his first construction the continued building airships at "Luftschiffbau Zeppelin". In 1920 he founded "Elektrometall GmbH", (now Mahle) who manufacture pistons, aircraft brake wheels, air and oil filters. His first engine, the HM60 had four hanging (inverted) cylinders, a crankshaft with Hirth-tooth system and a complete bearing application with anti-friction bearings.

Practical Two-Stroke Aircraft Engines
